To What Extent is the Western Music Industry influencing the Korean Music Industry 

Introduction
  • Korean Pop music is becoming increasingly influenced by the Western music industry. Are Korean audiences becoming desensitized to these changes or is it creating a moral panic to the country?
  •  Does Kpop sustain their audience before this change or have they acquired a new audience?
  • "K-Pop is definitely Korean pop music, but it is also a kind of transnational hybrid music that refers to other global popular music in various ways." pg.2 
  • "This is a paradox of K-Pop: in order to succeed in the global market, it needs to be de-nationalized; however, de-nationalization often makes domestic audiences feel uneasy about potentially losing the national identity" pg 203-204

  • Heavily influenced by western culture will desensitize and change audience
  • Massive pride of the country therefore de-nationalization will be difficult to occur
